Description

Siemens FiberSIM for NX Overview

Siemens FiberSIM for NX from Siemens PLM Software enables aerospace, automotive and wind energy professionals to optimize the weight, cost and performance of polymer composite materials (PCR) products by precisely controlling the orientation of reinforcing fibers.
Fibersim reduces risks by optimizing the design and manufacturing process of strong and lightweight innovative structures in the aerospace, automotive and wind energy industries. The package is developed by Vistagy, acquired by Siemens on December 7, 2011 and a commercial division of Siemens PLM Software.
Fibersim reduces the uncertainty of composite parts under load by describing, communicating, and verifying the required fiber orientation throughout the product development process, ensuring precise compliance with specified specifications. Using easy-to-use tools that eliminate errors when working with design data, you can reduce the risk of designing complex parts with excess weight, uncertain properties, and inflated cost.
Fibersim is a leading solution for the development of PCM products, helping world leaders in the aerospace, automotive, wind energy and other industries successfully solve complex problems throughout the entire manufacturing cycle – from conceptual design, detailed design, layer placement simulation and production data generation to quality control. Fibersim can be fully integrated into market-leading commercial 3D CAD systems.

Siemens FiberSIM for NX Features

• Enhanced Design-Time Optimization Capabilities
Fibersim helps reduce uncertainty in the behavior of composite materials under load with the new Spine-Based Rosette, which enables the simulation of material layup in a path-oriented manner. This information can be shared throughout the development process. Ensuring the correct fiber orientation of manufactured parts – whether it’s an aerospace stringer, a car frame, or a 60-meter wind turbine blade – is critical to optimizing the weight and performance of the part.

• Accurately Simulate Composite Layups on Complex Shapes
Fibersim introduced advanced process simulation capabilities for multi-layer materials, including multiaxial fabrics. These capabilities form the foundation for Fibersim to simulate an even wider range of materials and manufacturing processes with the first-ever Spine-Based Simulation for buckling parts. Material placed along the generatrix of a component such as an aircraft stringer, an automotive pillar, or a wind turbine blade guide will exhibit localized waviness and distortion. Identifying the causes of these phenomena early in the manufacturing cycle enables key decisions to be made to ensure the expected component strength is achieved in a timely and cost-effective manner.

• Efficiently transfer complete component descriptions between design and analysis departments
The program introduces a new functionality for exchanging multiaxial fabric and filler descriptions. This functionality enables efficient interaction between designers and strength engineers, taking into account critical components, throughout the product development cycle. Accurately calculating component stiffness and strength requires taking into account the specific characteristics of multiaxial fabrics and fillers commonly used in aerospace, automotive, and wind energy design.

• Simplify the composite part development and documentation process
Fibersim helps simplify the process of developing composite parts with new, easy-to-use design and documentation tools created for engineers with different experience in the field of PCM. The most complex and time-consuming task in the design process is working with the specifications of the runoffs between zones of constant thickness. Fibersim introduces the Visual Stagger Editor to simplify working with such specifications. Large aerospace panels such as wings, stabilizers or empennages have a significant number of different runoff profiles. The Stagger Editor simplifies the development of profiles and reduces the likelihood of design errors.
