Microsoft Visual Studio 2026 Enterprise Overview
Microsoft Visual Studio 2026 Enterprise Insiders meeting is here, and it’s one of the most ambitious steps forward we’ve taken in the IDE. This release integrates AI directly into the developer workflow, delivers performance improvements that redefine the expectations of speed at enterprise scale, and makes the experience easier and more focused. AI in Visual Studio 2026 isn’t built in, it’s built into the daily rhythm of coding. Think of AI as a silent partner that knows your solution, respects your muscle memory, and offers timely, non-intrusive help. You’ll notice this when you move to a new codebase and the IDE helps you navigate the situation, suggests what tests are commonly written in your repository, and keeps documentation and comments consistent with your code. You’ll feel it when the “paste and fix” moment becomes the only confirmation as the editor adapts the snippet to your project’s patterns and conventions. And when performance questions arise, you don’t have to guess — recommendations are based on real traces and verified by benchmarks, so fixes come with confidence, not hope. Code reviews start with clear, actionable data about correctness, performance, and security — on your machine, before you ever open a pull request. All the while, you’re in control. The IDE does the legwork, and you call the shots. The result is simple: you work faster, and your code gets better. Speed determines how much you can produce in a day. In 2026, the cycles you run most often — opening solutions, navigating code, building, and pressing F5 — will become shorter. You’ll notice that first launches are faster, large decisions feel easier, and the time between an idea and an app launch continues to shrink. The gains are noticeable on large codebases, and hold true on both x64 and Arm64, so the power of your machine directly affects the speed of development.

Additional information
Hardware:
ARM64 or AMD64/x64 processor; Quad-core or better recommended. ARM32 processors are not supported.
At least 4 GB of RAM. Many factors affect the resources used; 16 GB of RAM is recommended for standard professional solutions.
Windows 365: At least 2 vCPUs and 8 GB of RAM. 4 vCPUs and 16 GB of RAM recommended.
Hard disk space: At least 2.5 GB up to 210 GB of available space depending on installed components; Typical installations require 20–50 GB of free space. For best performance, we recommend installing Windows and Visual Studio on a solid-state drive (SSD).
Video adapter with a minimum resolution of WXGA (1366 by 768 pixels); 1920 by 1080 pixels or higher is recommended for an optimal Visual Studio experience.
The minimum resolution assumes that zoom settings, DPI settings, and text scaling are set to 100%. If you don’t set it to 100%, you must scale the minimum DPI appropriately. For example, if you set the Windows display Scale and Layout setting to 200% on a Surface Book, which has a 3000 x 2000 physical display, the logical display resolution for Visual Studio is 1500 x 1000, which meets the minimum requirement of 1366 x 768.
Additional requirements and instructions:
Administrator privileges are required to install or upgrade Visual Studio.
The .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later is required to install Visual Studio. Visual Studio requires the .NET Framework 4.8 to run. If the .NET Framework 4.8 is not already installed, it will be installed.
The WebView2 runtime is required to install Visual Studio. If it is not already installed, it will be installed during setup. Visual Studio setup will fail if WebView2 cannot be successfully installed (either due to an installation error or Group Policy installation or upgrade restrictions).
Integration with Office Team Foundation Server 2019 requires Office 2021 or later.
Intelligent Application Control, a Windows feature, is not recommended for development machines. Any setting other than “off” may negatively impact Visual Studio performance.
The integrated Windows terminal is supported according to the minimum OS requirements for the Windows terminal, currently Windows 10 20H1. Windows Server 2016 is not supported. On versions of Windows that do not support the integrated Windows terminal, use the terminal that comes with that version of Windows.
Installation
