Description

Hexagon Digimat inc Moldex3D Overview

Hexagon Digimat inc Moldex3D is designed for rapid and highly accurate prediction of the nonlinear behavior of multicomponent materials such as plastics, polymers, carbon and fiberglass reinforced plastics, nanomaterials, etc., for precise evaluation of the local and global behavior of multicomponent structures using the finite element method, for the preparation, storage, and confidential exchange of material models, and for the easy and highly efficient design of honeycomb sandwich panels.
DIGIMAT also offers a number of interfaces for finite element computer-aided engineering software systems (ANSYS, LS-DYNA, SIMULIA/Abaqus, etc.) designed for computer modeling and research in solid mechanics, structural mechanics, and finite element modeling software systems for plastic molding processes (Moldex3D, Moldflow, etc.).

Hexagon Digimat inc Moldex3D Features

  • Applications: aviation and space technologies, automotive industry, microelectronics, etc.
  • The Digimat-MF module is designed for analytical prediction of nonlinear behavior of materials
  • The module is designed for homogenization and allows for analytical prediction of nonlinear mechanical, thermal, and electrical macroscopic properties of multicomponent materials based on the properties of the components and data on the microstructure of the material (volume concentration of components, dimensions, and orientation of fibers).
  • Digimat-MF is highly accurate, efficient, and easy to learn and use. Digimat-MF supports nonlinear material models. The material microstructure includes reinforcing components, multilayer structures, and ellipsoidal reinforcing inclusions.
  • Homogenization methods include the Mori-Tanaka method, interpolation double inclusion, first- and second-order homogenization methods, and more.
  • The Digimat-FE module is designed to accurately predict local/global nonlinear behavior of multicomponent materials based on the application of the finite element method (FEM) and realistic Representative Volume Elements (RVE).
  • FE models created in Digimat-FE are used for calculations in FE analysis software systems. Digimat-FE offers a wide range of functions that enable modeling highly complex material microstructures with reasonable computer resources. This module allows you to determine the constituent components of composite materials, their microstructure, generate PEOs and define their loading, and more.
  • The main functions and capabilities of Digimat-FE are the definition of composite components, definition of microstructure (inclusion shapes, namely any shape imported from a geometry file, defining relations for composite components), definition of material microstructure, generation of PEO, definition of PEO loading (monotonic, cyclic, user-defined) and work with a finite element (FE) model.
  • The Digimat-MX module is used for the preparation, storage, recovery and secure exchange of DIGIMAT material models between material suppliers and users, as well as for the protection of their Intellectual Property.
  • The Material eXchange system is used for the development, storage, retrieval, and secure exchange of DIGIMAT material models between material suppliers and end users. Digimat-MX is based on a comprehensive set of materials databases that enable the identification of material parameters and the completion of missing data based on a limited number of experiments.
  • The main features of the Digimat-MX module include: a materials database providing access to experimental data, identification of material model parameters based on the reaction of homogenized material, the ability to perform reverse engineering, encryption of confidential data (in the MX+ module), and much more.
  • The Digimat-CAE module is a set of interfaces for finite element analysis and modeling programs for plastic injection processes, composite mechanics problems, and composite structures within the framework of general multidisciplinary problem statements.
  • Digimat-CAE interfaces enable accurate prediction of the behavior of composite materials and reinforced plastic parts using nonlinear multiscale modeling technology.
  • Digimat-CAE centralizes interfaces between Digimat-MF, injection molding simulation, and finite element analysis software. Digimat-CAE is used to adequately construct nonlinear micromechanical models of multicomponent materials based on linear or nonlinear finite element analysis and taking into account the material processing process. Digimat-CAE eliminates the coupling between injection molding simulation programs and finite element analysis software by taking into account the material’s microstructure (e.g., fiber orientation, infill, shape).
  • There are two modules: Digimat-CAE:Injection, designed for casting tasks, and Structural, designed for strength analysis.
  • The main capabilities that the Digimat-CAE/Injection module provides to the user are the consideration of orientation tensors, residual stresses and temperatures and weld lines, as well as interfaces integrated with Moldex3D, Autodesk Moldflow Insight, 3D Timon, REM3D, and SigmaSoft.
  • The main capabilities offered by the Digimat-CAE/Structural module to the user are the ability to use explicit and implicit solver types, various element types, consideration of various micromechanical models, as well as the availability of interfaces for “binding” to finite element analysis software systems such as Abaqus, ANSYS Mechanical, LS-DYNA, Optistruct, PAM-CRASH, RADIOSS, SAMCEF-Mecano, etc.
  • The Digimat-MAP module is shell and 3D transformation software used to transfer fiber orientation, residual stresses, temperatures, and weld lines between injection molding simulation meshes and finite element analysis (FE) software meshes. Digimat-MAP allows for evaluating the difference between the initial and final transformed solution. Digimat-MAP enables structural engineers to use the optimal mesh type required for efficient and highly accurate FE analysis.
  • The main capabilities of this module are: shell and 3D mesh transfer (6 transfer methods – node to node, node to integration point, element to integration point, etc.), positioning of the “donor mesh” and “target mesh” by scaling, transfer, mesh overlay and rotation, support for a large number of element types, data processing (construction of contour or vector graphs at the user’s choice, ellipsoidal display of tensor fields, construction of a cut plane on 3D meshes, etc.), the presence of an error indicator.
  • The Digimat-Micross module is designed for easy and efficient design of honeycomb sandwich panels using modern technology for modeling micro-heterogeneous materials.
  • The Digimat-Micross module is a highly accurate and easy-to-use software package designed for creating composite sandwich panels using numerical bending and shear tests. Materials can be defined at the Composite/Internal Component (macro) level or at the Fiber/Cell level. The Micross module can be used by both analysts and design engineers without experience in micromechanics and finite element modeling.
  • The main capabilities of the Micross module: defining a framework (considering the structure, defining material properties, considering fiber), creating a finite element model (automatic mesh generation according to the selected refinement, various loadings), defining an internal component (honeycomb structure or foam), integrated processing of results (post-processing), the presence of failure indicators, automatic generation of an HTML report.
